Toronto (June 4, 2019) - Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) denounces Nazi references and comparisons made in the Ontario legislature by members of provincial parliament.
On Monday, NDP MPP Gilles Bisson made reference to Nazi Germany propagandist Joseph Goebbels while discussing the Ford government’s plans to put beer and wine in corner stores. While Bisson has since apologized, this was not the first time he made the reference.
Other Ontario parties have also reportedly made Nazi references in the legislature.
“Nazi references and comparisons are completely unnecessary and trivialize the horrors committed by the Nazi regime that resulted in the deaths of 6 million Jewish people and millions more,” said FSWC President and CEO Avi Benlolo. “It’s shocking that some government officials still think it’s acceptable to make these exaggerated and inappropriate statements.”
