Toronto (April 24, 2019) – Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) is disturbed by reports that a recent antisemitic attack at BerMax Caffe and Bistro was staged by the café’s owners.

Winnipeg’s police chief announced the finding today following a thorough investigation into reports of assault, robbery and vandalism.

“The decision to stage such a serious crime is unconscionable,” said FSWC President and CEO Avi Benlolo. “It’s disappointing to know that these individuals have chosen to waste the time of Jewish organizations and police that could be used to investigate and counter true acts of hate."

According to reports, the three owners have been charged with public mischief. FSWC is looking to learn more about the matter.
