Toronto (December 13, 2018) - Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) is disturbed to learn about Canada’s recent Department of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness report revealing “close to 60 people suspected of engaging in extremist activities abroad have returned to Canada.”

The same report also states that "Canada continues to be used for recruitment, fundraising and other activities that facilitate violent extremist activity abroad."

“Sixty extremists identified in this country is too many. It only takes one perpetrator to conduct an act of violence,” said FSWC President and CEO Avi Benlolo. “As we saw in the Pittsburgh attack on Tree of Life, the Jewish community is vulnerable and is at risk of being subject to terror attacks.”

FSWC is determined to assist the Government of Canada and law enforcement authorities to ensure all Canadians are safe, including providing educational programs that inform young people about issues such as propaganda, extremism and modern-day hate and reduce their vulnerability to the influence of terrorist and extremist groups.
