Tour for Humanity finished off the week this week with a second visit to a high school in Whitby. There were 4 Canadian Experience workshops for Grade 10 history students. Most of the classes were currently studying the Holocaust and World War II in class so Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) Educator Daniella's visit was very timely.
Daniella was pleased with the number of questions that the students asked. Current hate crime statistics really impacted the groups, with one student commenting that he was surprised that people are still targeted based on their race and religion. He had always thought this was more in the past. Daniella discussed ways that the classes could make their school a more tolerant place, including inviting other students to hang out at lunch or before and after school.
