Today, the Tour for Humanity spent the day in Toronto at a Catholic elementary school. This is our last week of the school year and we will be returning to this same school tomorrow. The teacher who arranged our visit was thrilled to have the Tour for Humanity at the school. She told Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) Educator Elena that the school received a grant so that they could have the experience.
Elena taught students in Grades 3, 5, 6 and 8 so there were two sessions of Simon's Story and two Canadian Experience workshops. The day was a day full of questions and comments from students. One interesting question came from a Grade 6 student who wanted to know what the word partisan meant. Elena talked about resistance efforts in Poland and Russia and noted the fact that Jews also participated in partisan movements. Elena also had lots of younger students who wanted to know more about Hitler and share personal stories from their families during World War II.
