Tour for Humanity traveled north to Bradford, Ontario today to a Catholic elementary school. Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) Educator Daniella spent the day working with Grades 6 to 8 students throughout 5 Canadian Experience workshops. The reviews were incredibly positive, for both teachers and students alike as well as school administrators that popped in throughout the day. Daniella began the day with a very quiet Grade 6 class. Their teacher had spoken to me in advance and explained that this particular class was very shy and would likely be unwilling to answer questions. That being said, by the end of the workshop virtually every student had asked or answered a question! Due to their young age Daniella went through the material with a story narrative, giving each aspect of history a personal touch. This allowed them to connect with the material.

The Grades 7 and 8 classes that followed had been studying Residential Schools in class so the Tour for Humanity program fit in really well. The students had very little knowledge regarding the Holocaust, so most of the material was new to them. After watching the Holocaust video one Grade 8 student wanted to reaffirm that the images were all real (Daniella always emphasizes the fact that the footage is real before starting the video) - so she explained to her that yes it was real and that the people on the screen weren’t actors.
