Today, Tour for Humanity was in Whitby at a secondary school where Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) Educator Elena taught 4 workshops to Grade 10 students, all on the Canadian Experience.
It was a great day of workshops, although none of the groups were very talkative. Elena spent time with each group making the connection between Nazism and other hate groups in the world today, as well as the use of the swastika as a hate symbol among young people. Elena also led lengthy discussions about Canada during World War II and attitudes towards Japanese Canadians. Elena also made sure to address the violence and racial ideologies of Japan during World War II in China , Korea, the Philippines, and other East Asian territories. One student thanked Elena for bringing up the fact that World War II is also about atrocities in Asia.
