Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) is horrified by reports that a home-based synagogue in Montreal was found desecrated last week, including Torah scrolls dumped on the floor and prayer shawls stuffed in toilets.
A congregant of the Sepharade Kol Yehouda synagogue in Côte-Saint-Luc made the discovery when he came to pick up ritual items. The synagogue has remained closed during the pandemic.
"We are shocked and saddened by this attack on a local synagogue and the Jewish community," said Jaime Kirzner-Roberts, FSWC's Director of the Campaign Against Antisemitism. "Houses of worship are sacred spaces. This particularly obscene desecration demands a full investigation. We call upon Montreal police to thoroughly investigate this horrific crime and to find and prosecute the perpetrator of this hate crime to the fullest extent of the law.”
