Toronto (October 28, 2019) – Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) is in communication with York Regional Police after a rabbi reported vandalism and trespassing on his property.
Rabbi Yossi Vorovitch of the Chabad Jewish Centre of Georgina has informed FSWC that a short altercation ensued on Shabbat after an individual attempted to enter the rabbi’s home and admitted to recent vandalism of the rabbi’s sukkah. According to Rabbi Vorovitch, the same individual had recently posted a photo of Hitler on the Jewish centre’s Google page.
“These incidents are concerning and of course we take it very seriously since safety is so important to the Jewish community,” Rabbi Vorovitch told FSWC. “We are determined to move forward by fighting all evil and darkness with good.”
“We are currently in communication with police to ensure that this situation is thoroughly monitored and investigated,” said FSWC president and CEO Avi Benlolo. “Any kind of threat to the Jewish community must be taken seriously, especially considering recent violent incidents targeting synagogues and Jewish people that have occurred around the world.”
