Toronto (August 16, 2021) Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) joins the Simon Wiesenthal Center in calling on UN Secretary-General António Guterres to cancel the upcoming Durban IV conference, a celebration of the 2001 "World Conference Against Racism" that turned into an antisemitic hatefest.
The call comes after numerous countries - including Canada, the U.S., the U.K., Australia, Germany and France - announced their decision to not participate in the event.
"The antisemitism and anti-Israel hatred that was showcased at the 2001 Durban conference is nothing to celebrate," said Michael Levitt, FSWC president and CEO. "Democratic countries around the world have recognized this and have taken a stand against Durban IV, and it's time for the UN to get the hint and do the same by cancelling the event."
