Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) has launched a petition urging the UN the condemn Hamas for the environmental damage the terror group has caused in southern Israel.

Addressed to Erik Solheim, Executive Director of the UN Environment Programme, the petition outlines the damage caused by the hundreds of incendiary kites and balloons that have been launched into Israel from Gaza over the last six months as well as burning tires that have polluted the air with toxins.

“Considering there are international laws prohibiting the destruction of natural environments in armed conflict, it is extremely disappointing that the organization and member states have remained silent about Hamas’s environmental terrorism,” the petition states. “Therefore, it is imperative for the UN to condemn Hamas’s destructive actions and take all possible steps to end this environmental terrorism along the Israel-Gaza border.”

The fires caused by Hamas have killed thousands of hectares of land and wildlife and have negatively impacted the lives of farmers and local residents.
