Toronto (February 28, 2019) – Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) educates and advocates daily through its multiple platforms. Today, FSWC’s Tour for Humanity mobile tolerance training centre will be at the Durham District School Board, where close to 200 students will be participating in its Holocaust, genocide and human rights workshop.

Additionally, the organization will be meeting with over 200 teachers at the Durham School Board with its associate director of education and Holocaust survivor, Max Eisen. FSWC is also hosting Grade 10 students from Francis Lieberman Catholic High School for a Lessons and Legacies of the Holocaust workshop at its Tolerance Training Centre in North York.

“Hate crimes have increased at an alarming rate in Canada over the past few years,” said Avi Benlolo, FSWC President and CEO. Statistics Canada has reported a 63% increase in hate crimes targeting the Jewish community in 2017 while an FSWC study of antisemitism across the country revealed a 15% baseline of antisemitism across the country. “While we are concerned about antisemitism, our programs are designed to build a compassionate society that positively impact all communities across the country,” Benlolo added.

FSWC offers diversity training programs and partners with schools, universities, police, educators and corporations. In light of racism in sports recently, FSWC is pleased to offer its expertise to leagues and preventative measures. Please call us at 416-864-9735 ext. 22.
