Today, on the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Netherlands, Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) joins Canadians in remembering and honouring the Canadian soldiers who fought to liberate the Netherlands from Nazi Germany during the Second World War.
Some 175,000 Canadian soldiers took part in the eight-month campaign, 7,600 of whom lost their lives.
"Today we are reminded of the sacrifices our soldiers made to bring freedom, peace and democracy to the Netherlands," said FSWC President and CEO Avi Benlolo. "We thank Canada's veterans for their service and mourn the thousands of soldiers who were killed."
