FSWC Monitoring Appeal by Ex-Nazi Helmut Oberlander

Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center(FSWC) is monitoring today’s court appearance concerning former Naziinterpreter Helmut Oberlander as he appeals the latest revocation of his Canadiancitizenship.

The federal government stripped the94-year-old Oberlander of his citizenship for the fourth time on June 20, 2017for allegedly failing to disclose his wartime involvement with the Nazis uponsettling in Canada. FSWC strongly supports the government’s attempts to revokeOberlander’s Canadian status.

“We urge the court to come down on the side ofjustice,” said FSWC President and CEO Avi Benlolo. “No amount of years or courtappeals can erase the alleged atrocities Mr. Oberlander helped commit as part of theNazi war machine.”

The Simon Wiesenthal Center hasOberlander on its annual list of the Most Wanted Nazi War Criminals for havingserved in the Nazi death squad, Einstazkommando 10a, which isestimated to have killed 23,000 civilians – most of which were Jews.
