Toronto (June 5, 2019) - Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) has offered its support to the Halton Regional Police Service following the launch of a hate crime investigation in the City of Burlington.

According to an HRPS media release, police are seeking public assistance to identify the perpetrators who displayed hate-motivated messages – including an antisemitic poster on a traffic post and antisemitic imagery on the front doors of the Burlington Art Galley and Burlington City Hall – at six locations in the city between May 21 and June 2.

“Members of the community who have information about any of the six incidents are being urged to stand up against hate by reaching out to police and helping ensure the perpetrators do not get away with spreading such hateful messages,” said FSWC President and CEO Avi Benlolo, who spoke with the HRPS Chief of Police earlier today.

Through programs such as Compassion to Action and Lessons in Humanity, FSWC works with police from cities across Canada to increase their understanding of the Holocaust and antisemitism and help empower them to counter hate in their communities.
