TORONTO (July 13, 2017) – Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center(FSWC) opposes an anti-Israel exhibition that has been set up at WesternUniversity’s McIntosh Gallery in London, Ontario.

The exhibition, entitled Choreographies of Resistance,allegedly promotes the violent Palestinian resistance movement while makingfalse claims about Israel. It was created by Palestinian-Canadian activistRehab Nazzal.

“As Jewishstudents on university campuses continue to feel targeted by pro-Palestiniangroups, it’s disappointing to see art being used to spread a similar agenda,”says Avi Benlolo, FSWC President and CEO.

According to the McIntosh Gallery,one of the exhibition’s installations includes photographic images projectedonto hundreds of handmade slingshots – showcasing the practice ofstone-throwing, a tactic often used by Palestinians and that has killednumerous Israelis. 

Based on a 2015 proactive disclosure report, Nazzal – doctorate candidate atWestern University – will receive$60,000 between 2015 and 2018 from the Social Sciences and Humanities ResearchCouncil (SSHRC), which is governed by a council appointed by the federalgovernment.
