FSWC Pleased to See Jewish Heritage Month Act Pass Third Reading

Toronto (March 28, 2018) – Friends of Simon WiesenthalCenter (FSWC) is very pleased to see Bill S-232, Canadian Jewish Heritage MonthAct, pass unanimously at third reading in the House of Commons today. With its passage, thebill is set to receive royal assent which will proclaim May as Jewish HeritageMonth in Canada.

“This important piece of legislation sets the stage forcelebrating the many contributions of the Jewish community to Canada.” said AviBenlolo, FSWC President and CEO. “We would like to express our appreciation andcongratulate the bill’s sponsors, Senator Linda Frum and MP Michael Levitt, fortheir dedication and commitment to championing this initiative. JewishHeritage Month, set in May each year, will be an important opportunity to bringawareness as to how the Canadian Jewish community and its members areinterwoven into the Canadian mosaic from coast to coast and have been involvedin all aspects of Canadian life."

FSWC has made its Jewish Heritage Month ResourceGuidebook available to community groups and to school boards across the countryin order to enhance their participation in Jewish Heritage Month.
