Toronto (April 23, 2020) - As part of its continued effort to assist Holocaust survivors during the Covid-19 pandemic, Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies has responded to Baycrest Hospital’s emergency campaign by providing a $25,000 grant designated to assist survivors.
“Difficult times call for drastic measures. We are pleased to answer the call to assist Holocaust survivors at Baycrest Hospital. This is our fundamental duty, our responsibility and the highest form of tzedakah – to ensure that our most fragile community members are taken care of,” said FSWC President and CEO Avi Benlolo.
FSWC’s Chairman Fred Waks said, “As a foundation that preserves the memory of the Holocaust, we are happy to provide this type of community support.”
In acknowledgement of FSWC’s gift, Baycrest Foundation President and CEO Josh Cooper said: “This support is truly appreciated and shows the strength of FSWC in our city. We are very fortunate to have them as one of our community leaders.”
To mark Yom Hashoah this year, FSWC sent care packages to its affiliated Holocaust survivors and continues to stay in contact with them to ensure they are well taken care of. The organization continues to promote Holocaust education on its online workshops and forums, including its Holocaust testimony website, www.neverforgetme.ca.
