FSWC Receives MajorBoost and Vote of Confidence for its Programming:
$177,200 fromCanadian Heritage for Antiracism Education Project and $7,582 from Ontario Ministryof Citizenship and Immigration
Toronto (November 17,2017) – Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies (FSWC) will bethe recipient of a grant to support its anti-racism programming from 2017-2019. The announcement was made by the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister ofCanadian Heritage under the Multicultural Program.
Under this grant, FSWCplans to extend the reach of its award-winning anti-racism programs such as Tourfor Humanity and classroom workshops beyond our province. This will beaccomplished by hiring additional educators and conducting seminars throughoutCanada to combat the rising tide of racism and discrimination.
"We are currentlyoperating at full capacity, and as demand continues to increase for ourresources from across the country, this grant will assist us in extending ourreach and bolstering our resources across Canada," said Avi Benlolo, FSWCPresident and CEO. "We thank the Government of Canada, Minister Jolyand MPs Michael Levitt, Marco Mendicino, Ali Ehsassi, Bill Blair and manyothers for their support and enthusiasm for our work.
Earlier this month,Ontario's Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, the Honourable Laura Albanese, andthe Honourable David Zimmer informed FSWC that it had been awarded funding for theorganization's Speaker's Idol program. The program pulls students from acrossthe province to deliver speeches on how to improve the world.
FSWCis delighted to have the confidence of federal and provincial governments inthe enhancement of our anti-racism programs. We believe that Canada willbe better through inclusive partnerships between government and successfulprograms like those at Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center.
