Toronto (August 29, 2019) - Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) stands with Israel’s Ambassador to Canada’s letter released today that calls on the UN to take action against Hezbollah’s presence in Southern Lebanon.
According to Ambassador Nimrod Barkan’s letter, UNIFIL has failed its mission to ensure Hezbollah has no presence south of the Litani River in Lebanon. A recent video“exposes UNIFIL forces’ utter weakness in facing Hezbollah in areas under its control in Southern Lebanon,” Barkan writes.
“It is critical at this time for the UN to fulfill its mandate of ensuring the terror group Hezbollah does not gain power in Southern Lebanon, as this would put Israel and its civilians in danger. After a number of Hezbollah’s terror tunnels were discovered in Israel, it’s clear that the group’s goal is to enter Israel and attack innocent people. The UN must wake up and recognize that Israelis have a right to freedom and to feel safe in their country,” said FSWC President and CEO Avi Benlolo.
