Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) stands with Winnipeg’s Jewish community following a vicious attack at a local restaurant, BerMax Caffe and Bistro, where a woman was assaulted and vandalism included property damage and hateful graffiti.
This is the fourth time the restaurant has been targeted with vandalism and graffiti in the last five months.
“It is very disheartening to see the same restaurant be the target of antisemitism over and over again. Whether this is a repeat or copy-cat attack, police must increase their efforts to track down who the perpetrators are and ensure they face justice,” said FSWC President and CEO Avi Benlolo. “As an investigation continues, it is encouraging to see people in Winnipeg standing in solidarity against antisemitism and showing their support to the Jewish community.”
Police are investigating the incident as a hate crime. An interfaith vigil is set to take place in Winnipeg on Thursday, where people from different communities will stand in solidarity against hate.
