In recent weeks, Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) paid several visits to Camp Manitou in McKellar, Ontario, conducting a series of meaningful educational workshops and presenting guest speakers. Not typically associated with summer camp activities, this innovative initiative encourages campers to be positive changemakers and to never turn away in the face of hate and injustice.

Last month, FSWC's Tour for Humanity mobile education centre was stationed at the camp for two days to deliver engaging educational workshops to more than 800 campers and counsellors. They learned about the life and legacy of Simon Wiesenthal, what it means to be a hero who speaks out against hatred and intolerance and the different ways they could use their voices to stand up against bullying.

This past week, FSWC organized the visit of two special speakers to Camp Manitou: Emmanuel Jal and Hannah Alper. A former child soldier in war-torn Sudan, Emmanuel is an acclaimed recording artist and peace ambassador who draws on his difficult personal experiences to inspire young people to be leaders in making the world a better place for all. He shared his message of action and peace with an audience of more than 700 campers and counsellors on Friday.

Yesterday evening, Hannah Alper captivated campers, sharing her experiences as a youth activist and highlighting the ways everyone can be a changemaker in their communities.

FSWC is thrilled to offer lively educational programs for youth and adults throughout the summer and the rest of the year. Preparations are now well underway for the 2022-2023 school year, with bookings for daily workshops continuing to come in from across Canada.
