Toronto (April 8, 2019) - After almost two weeks since Facebook announced it will extend its ban on hate speech to white nationalism and white separatism, the social media giant said today that it has banned white nationalist groups across its platform, including any Facebook groups, pages and Instagram accounts associated with the groups.
Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) supports this ban and the ongoing crackdown by social media companies on the promotion of hatred that has become rampant online.
“Any groups or individuals seeking to spread their messages of hate and violence against identifiable groups should know that their hate is not welcome online,” said FSWC President and CEO Avi Benlolo.
According to Facebook, the groups violate its policy on dangerous individuals and organizations, which bans “terrorist activity, organised hate, mass or serial murder, human trafficking, organised violence,or criminal activity.”
