Toronto (February 4, 2022) - Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) applauds NDP House Leader Peter Julian for tabling a bill yesterday to ban hate symbols in Canada.

According to a statement from the NDP, the private member's bill, Bill C-229, would "prevent anyone from selling and displaying symbols that promote hatred," including swastikas and other Nazi symbols, KKK symbols and the Confederate flag, and symbols of slavery, racism and white supremacy.

FSWC calls on all members of Parliament to support this important bill, as we continue to witness the display of Nazi and other hate symbols throughout the country, most notably this past week in Ottawa. There is no room for these vile symbols anywhere in Canada.
