Toronto (May 8, 2019) - Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) stands in support of moving Canada's embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, a move that Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer promised yesterday if he gets elected as Canada's prime minister.
Such a move would symbolize Canada's recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
"Moving Canada's embassy to Jerusalem is simply the right thing to do," said FSWC President and CEO Avi Benlolo. "It's not partisan - it's about fairness and equality. It's an end to a historic discriminatory practice. It's a declaration of Israel's right to exist."
Scheer had previously delivered a pledge that a Conservative government would recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital, but yesterday's announcement was the first time Scheer said the Canadian embassy would move as well.
