FSWC Welcomes Canadian Parliament Motion Against Iran

June 13, 2018 – Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies (FSWC) welcomes MP Garnett Genius' motion (and its adoption in the House of Commons) to immediately list Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization.

MP Michael Levitt joined the government in condemning the Iranian regime.  In a statement released shortly after the vote, Levitt said: "I condemn the regime for its incitement and threats against Israel. I condemn it for its sponsorship and export of terror, for its support of Hamas and incitement of violence in Gaza…"

The motion called on the government of Canada to cease efforts at diplomatic restoration with the Iranian regime while strongly denouncing its abusive behaviour. "FSWC strongly supported this effort and commends Ministers on both sides of the House for speaking out.  Ensuring that Canada is not a bystander to human rights abuse should always be a focus of our foreign policy" said Avi Benlolo, President and CEO of FSWC.
