Toronto (December 6, 2018) - Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) welcomes today’s adoption of a declaration on fighting antisemitism by the Council of the European Union.

The declaration calls on the 28 members states to take steps to prevent and fight all forms of antisemitism and hate crimes, endorse the IHRA working definition of antisemitism, increase efforts to ensure security for Jewish communities and introduce training about all forms of hate and intolerance in schools.

“Antisemitism is a growing concern in Europe and requires governments to take serious action and implement programs that help counter hate against their Jewish citizens,” said FSWC President and CEO Avi Benlolo. “The approval of this declaration by member states is a step in the right direction, signaling that countries in Europe stand with Jewish people and recognize the need for increased security and education. We must hold these countries accountable and ensure they follow through with what’s outlined in the declaration."
