Toronto (November 23, 2022) - Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) is horrified by the news of two terror bombings at bus stops in Jerusalem today that tragically killed 16-year-old dual Canadian-Israeli citizen Aryeh Shechopek and wounded at least 18 others, some critically.

This morning, Shechopek was on his way to a yeshiva where he studied when two bombs exploded at bus stops near separate entrances to Jerusalem.

FSWC President and CEO Michael Levitt issued the following statement:

"It is a heartbreaking day with Israel once again shaken by a horrific deadly terror attack that has killed a Canadian-Israeli boy. This is a heinous act of violence and hatred that targeted innocent people simply because they are Jewish. As Palestinian terror groups Hamas and Islamic Jihad celebrate this attack and continue to incite violence, Israelis are in mourning and are once again faced with the ongoing reality of murderous terrorism. Such vile acts must be strongly denounced by all Canadians and people around the world."

We stand with the people of Israel and send our heartfelt condolences to the family of Shechopek. FSWC's thoughts and prayers are with those wounded in today’s attacks, and we wish them a speedy and full recovery.

May Aryeh Shechopek's memory forever be a blessing.
