Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) joins Israel and Jewish communities around the world in celebrating Yom Ha’atzmaut – Israel Independence Day.
Tonight at sundown, the 71st anniversary of the establishment of the modern State of Israel will be celebrated.
“Over the last 71 years, Israel has stood as a beacon of hope and light for freedom and democracy,” said FSWC President and CEO Avi Benlolo. “Despite being faced with terrorism, rocket attacks and other forms of aggression, Israel has maintained the security of its civilians while also making positive contributions to society and becoming a leading innovator among the world’s nations – particularly in areas such as health, education and technology.”
Yesterday afternoon, FSWC representatives attended flag-raising ceremonies at Queen’s Park and Vaughan City Hall in recognition of Yom Ha’atzmaut.
