Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) is calling on the University of Toronto to condemn the Graduate Students’ Union’s (GSU) blatant antisemitism after a student proposing a motion to support a kosher food campaign on campus was told the motion may not be put forward because it was backed by a “pro-Israel” student group.

In an email response, the student – who is a member of the GSU Board of Directors – was reportedly told “the Executive Committee strives to abstain from this type of discourse in order to ensure the will of the membership is accurately reflected in any votes on these motions.”

The GSU has a BDS Committee and had previously passed a motion in support of the BDS movement against Israel.

The GSU has since apologized, stating in a letter released yesterday that the response came from its external commissioner and was not on behalf of its executive committee.
