Toronto (August 20, 2021) - Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) commends the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO) for passing a motion to combat antisemitism.

The motion was passed on Tuesday during ETFO's Annual Meeting. The motion called for the Federation to "establish a task force of the Annual Meeting to combat Antisemitism in Ontario" with objectives including "examining ways to enhance the advocacy, well being, and support for Members with a report to the May 2022 Representative Council."

"Amid rising hate incidents in Ontario, we've come to know all too well that the education sector is not immune to antisemitism," said Michael Levitt, president and CEO of FSWC. "The decision by the ETFO to pass this motion and commit to taking action against antisemitism is commendable and welcome as the Jewish community continues to be targeted by individuals looking to promote hate and division."
