Remember Israel's Fallen and Victims of Terrorism

TORONTO – April 30, 2017 – Canadian Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center marks Yom Hazikaron – Remembrance Day – to commemorate 23,544 men, women who have died defending Israel and in terror attacks. Over 3,000 victims of terrorism are also remembered including many children and teens. Israel's memorial day will formally begin at sundown on Sunday April 30th, as the country pauses with the sounding of two sirens – one at 8.00 pm tonight and one at 11.00 am tomorrow.  There are currently 9,157 bereaved parents of fallen soldiers, 4,881 widows, 1,843 orphans under the age of 30 and thousands of bereaved siblings and orphans above the age of 30. "On this important day, I pay tribute to to all those who fought and died to defend, and preserve Israel's freedom and democracy including my heroic cousin who was killed in the Golan region on his way to defend Israel", said Avi Benlolo, President and CEO of Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center.
