Almost 300 guests arrived at Beth Tzedec Synagogue yesterday evening, all in celebration of the State of Israel. Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center's (FSWC) annual State of the Union brought lively and thought-provoking discussions about important issues concerning Israel combined with the meaningful sentiments left from all speakers - including Israel's former Ambassador to the UN, Dan Gillerman, and the Founder and Dean of Simon Wiesenthal Center, Rabbi Marvin Hier.

President & CEO Avi Benlolo delivered an impactful message, setting the tone for the evening when he stressed that "we must turn complacency into action" and to "never forget who we are and where we came from."

Rabbi Marvin Hier spoke eloquently, reminding us of the ever important Balfour Declaration and bringing everyone back in time to remember and praise the work and leadership of President Harry S. Truman, detailing how strong leadership and support is key to the success of Israel in the past, present, and future.

In the final speech of the evening, Dan Gillerman expressed his optimism about Israel. While "Israel is facing the most dangerous and extreme challenges," with threats coming from Iran and terrorist groups Hezbollah and Hamas, there is a "sea of hope," said Gillerman. He discussed Israel's role in the Middle East, the challenges the country is facing, and what there is to look forward to as a shift in leadership in the Middle East is helping countries finally see Israel as an ally, not an enemy.

"Israel will prevail, because history has proven time and time again that when odds are against us, we do prevail."

FSWC would like to thank everyone who was in attendance, standing up in support of the State of Israel!
