TORONTO (May 14, 2018) - Friendsof Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) condemns a recent call for violence by Hamas.In a tweet posted yesterday on Jerusalem Day, Hamas called upon the Palestinianpeople to “engage with theenemy, rally in the return marches, escalate the intifada of Jerusalem.”

“This statement by Hamasreaffirms that the terror organization is attacking Israel,” said FSWCPresident and CEO Avi Benlolo. “Canada and other peace-loving nations mustcondemn this incitement to hatred and violence and recognize that Hamas is partof the problem, not the solution.”

As Hamas continues topursue its goal of attacking Israel and failing to recognize Jerusalem as thecountry’s capital, today Israel celebrates the opening of the US embassy inJerusalem. FSWC commends this historic move and calls on other countries,including Canada, to follow suit.
