TORONTO (May 2, 2018) - Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) is pleased to see the City of Toronto join federal and provincial governments in proclaiming May as Jewish Heritage Month. Toronto Mayor John Tory made the proclamation earlier today on behalf of the Toronto City Council.
“It is pleasing to see all levels of government in the country recognizing the many contributions of the Jewish community, particularly in Toronto, which has the highest Jewish population in all of Canada,” said FSWC President and CEO Avi Benlolo. “We commend the City of Toronto for seeing the importance of celebrating and educating others about the achievements, contributions and history of the Jewish community.”
During Jewish Heritage Month, FSWC is encouraging Canadians to download its Resource Guidebook, which provides a breadth of useful information - including historical timelines, biographies on renowned Jewish Canadians, and contextual background on antisemitism.
