TORONTO (August22, 2017)– After reaching out to Holt Renfrew and encouraging the removal of a dresswith the Yellow Star from its stores, FSWC is pleased that the company hassince agreed to remove the offending item entirely from its stores.
“Whilethe item should not have been available at stores to begin with, FSWC commendsHolt Renfrew for hearing our concerns and having it removed from stores,” saidAvi Benlolo, FSWC President and CEO.
Thedress – which had a yellow star on the upper left side and the name “John” – wasoriginally pulled from display but still available for purchase, FSWC confirmedyesterday.
Holt Renfrew issued a statement apologizing for any upsetthat may have been caused and reassuring its customers that it was not itsintention to offend. The company’s president, Mario Grauso, confirmed todaythat “all products with the star have been removedfrom the floor.”
Miu Miu - the Italian design company behind the dress - also decided to remove the item from its collection. In a statement, Miu Miu said it was not their intention to make any political or religious statement and they apologize for any offence that may have been taken.
