Toronto (March 26, 2019) - Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) is urging the Social Planning Council of Winnipeg and Canadian Muslim Women’s Institute to remove Linda Sarsour as a guest panelist from their “Sorry Not Sorry” event taking place on April 26 in Winnipeg.
In a petition released today by FSWC, SPCW and CMWI are being urged to take a stand against hate by removing Sarsour from the event’s lineup of speakers, which will include two other speakers.
Through actions such as supporting the antisemitic BDS movement, embracing terrorists and claiming that there is no room in feminism for women who support Israel and are Zionists, “Sarsour has created an unwelcoming environment for Jewish and pro-Israel women in the Women's March movement,” the petition states. “As organizations that claim to support equity, empowerment and inclusiveness, opening the stage to Sarsour means supporting her views –including those that are antisemitic.”
While the event was set to take place at the Seven Oaks Performing Arts Centre, the Seven Oaks School Division recently removed the venue from the event. The event organizers are reportedly in search of a new venue.
