FSWC Disapproves of Inappropriate Use of Holocaust Monument for Photo Shoot

FSWC disapproves of the inappropriate use of the National Holocaust Monument in Ottawa, which was recently used as a site for a fashion photo shoot. The photographer behind the photo shoot reportedly stated that the project has been discontinued and all materials have been deleted.

St. Mark’s College in Australia is under fire after photos from numerous events reveal students wearing antisemitic and racist costumes. One recent photo shows students dressed as concentration camp prisoners, while other photos show students dressed as Hitler and giving the Nazi salute as well as dressed in blackface.

Trump Approves Largest-Ever Aid Package to Israel

The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) signed by US President Donald Trump on Monday includes $550 million in assistance to Israel, authorizing funds for research and development pertaining to weapon-defence systems and joint US-Israeli work on counter-tunnel technology. The legislation also temporarily halts the sale of F-35 fighter jets to Turkey in response to the country’s detention of American pastor Andrew Brunson.

Israeli-Palestinian Support for Two-State Solution at 20-Year Low

According to new polling data, support for a two-state solution among Israelis and Palestinians is at its lowest point in two decades. Only 49% Israelis and 43% Palestinians support the idea, compared to 71% Israelis and 57% Palestinians in 2010.

Number of Canadians Visiting Israel on the Rise

According to the Israel Ministry of Tourism – Canada, the number of Canadians visiting Israel is continuing to rise, largely due to heightened interest in the country. This is part of an overall increase in people from around the world travelling to Israel, with January to July 2018 seeing an 46% increase in visitors from the same time period in 2016. “Canadians are realizing that Israel is a safe, modern, world-class destination,” said Jerry Adler, Director for Canada, Israel Ministry of Tourism.
